A most interesting genuine group that is fully documented William Neil Rudd was born 13th May 1881 in Kandy, Ceylon, arrived in Australia in 1895 and settled with his parents in Blackwarry, Gippsland. He enlisted 5th Feb 1900 and embarked from Melbourne to South Africa 10th March of that year. After being wounded in action he returned to Australia 23rd March 1901. After convalescence he re-enlisted 8th Jan 1902 and embarked for South Africa 12th Feb where he served out the remainder of the Boer War that ceased 31st May 1902 . He embarked for his return to Australia 8th July 1902, the same date that he was discharged from 2Bn Australian Commonwealth Horse. He arrived back in Australia 2nd August 1902. He once again returned to South Africa and served with the South African Police Force from 28th June 1902 (note the cross-over of Boer War service, RTA, and police service) to October 1921 when he was discharged due to ill health and returned to Australia. But his career in the services wasn't finished yet - at age 59 he enlisted in the 3rd District Records Corps in Melbourne 15th May 1940 where he served until his discharge 28th December 1942. He died, aged 83 on 3rd Nov 1964. There is a wealth of further information in the supplied biography Note: the KSA appears to have been re-engraved, but this would not be surprising considering his re-enlistment into a new unit in 1902 See also lot ... for his South African Police Force whistle
